Latvian Defense Minister sent military personnel to protect the border
On March 30, the national armed forces of Latvia, at the request of the leadership of the State Border Guard Service of the country, will begin to protect the state border with the Russian Federation. This, according to the LSM portal, was declared by the Minister of Defense of Latvia Artis Pabriks. According to him, 40 soldiers and members of the national militia of the Zemessargs will go to the eastern border for this purpose. The same amount, according to Sabrix, will be used to strengthen the protection of Latvia's internal borders in the EU. The Minister of Defense of Latvia also added that the soldiers of the National Security Service from April 1 will also help with border protection with Lithuania and Estonia. So far, the strengthening measures will last until April 14. If the emergency regime is extended, the NVA mission will last accordingly, he said. According to the news agency, an emergency regime was introduced in Latvia from 13 March to 14 April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
